Delayed NASCAR racing from Phoenix was unsurprisingly low on NBCSN. In other news, NASCAR’s Xfinity Series had another decline, and the U.S. men’s soccer team hit a viewership low on BeIn Sport.
Delayed NASCAR From Phoenix Low on NBCSN
- Rain-delayed NASCAR Sprint Cup racing from Phoenix, the ninth race in the Chase For the Cup, drew a 1.4 final rating and 2.2 million viewers on NBCSN Sunday night. The race had a 3.1 and 5.1 million last year and a 2.7 and 4.3 million in 2013, when coverage aired as scheduled on ESPN. Dale Earnhardt Jr.‘s win ranks as the lowest rated and least-watched Sprint Cup telecast this season — including exhibitions — falling below the previous marks of 1.5 and 2.6 million for the delayed Bristol race on Fox Sports 1 in April. Xfinity Series Drops Again
- NASCAR Xfinity Series racing from Phoenix earned 1.2 million viewers on NBCSN Saturday afternoon, down 35% from last year on ESPN (1.9M) and down 12% from 2013 on ESPN2 (1.4M). Despite the decline, the race earned the largest Xfinity Series audience on NBCSN since Bristol in August (1.3M). (via ShowBuzz Daily)
USMNT Hits Low on BeIn Sport
- Tuesday’s United States/Trinidad & Tobago men’s soccer friendly had 182,000 viewers on BeIn Sport, the least-watched USMNT match on an English-language network this year. Spanish-language coverage on NBC Universo had a larger audience (289K). The previous U.S. match, against St. Vincent & The Grenadines on Friday, drew 491,000 on ESPN2 and 799,000 on UniMás/Univision Deportes Network. The combined audience of 1.3 million was still less than half of what Mexico/El Salvador had UniMás/UDN the same night (2.8M). (via ShowBuzz Daily [1], [2], Univision)
