ESPN scored its top Black Friday college football overnight in five years.
The Baylor/TCU college football game earned a 3.2 overnight rating on ESPN Friday night, up 88% from Virginia Tech/Virginia last year (1.7) and the network’s highest overnight for a college game on the day after Thanksgiving since 2010.
The Horned Frogs’ double-overtime win, which knocked the Bears from the playoff race, scored the top overnight for any college football game on cable in six weeks — since Michigan State/Michigan had a 5.1 and Florida/LSU a 4.0 in mid-October.
Shifting to Saturday, Florida State/Florida had a 2.65 overnight in primetime — down 63% from Auburn/Alabama last year (7.2) and down 26% from Texas A&M/Missouri in 2013 (3.6). It also declined 35% from last year’s Florida/FSU game on ESPN, which aired in an earlier timeslot (4.1).
Penn State/Michigan State drew a 2.6 overnight earlier in the day, down 37% from last year’s aforementioned Florida/FSU game (4.1) but up 136% from Penn State/Wisconsin in 2013 (1.1). Finally, Clemson/South Carolina earned a 1.8 in the Noon ET window — up 29% from the same matchup last year (1.4) but down 22% from FSU/Florida in 2013 (2.3).
