Overnight ratings for the Orange Bowl rose from horrible to merely mediocre.
Tuesday’s Iowa/Georgia Tech game drew a 7.1 overnight rating on FOX, up 16% from a record-low 6.1 for last year’s game between Virginia Tech and Cincinnati, but down 7% from a 7.6 for Kansas/Virginia Tech in ’08.
The 7.1 overnight is the second-lowest ever for a Bowl Championship Series game, ahead of only last year’s Orange Bowl.
FOX finished third for the night in primetime Tuesday in total viewers and adults 18-49, behind CBS and NBC.
Tuesday’s game was the last Bowl Championship Series telecast to air on FOX.
