For the second year in a row, the New Mexico Bowl attracted its smallest audience.
Saturday’s Arizona/New Mexico New Mexico Bowl scored 1.8 million viewers on ESPN, down 4% from Utah State/UTEP last year (1.9M) and down 34% from Colorado State/Washington State in 2013 (2.8M). Ratings were not immediately available.
The Wildcats’ win ranks as the least-watched New Mexico Bowl in the ten-season history of the event (dates back to 2007), falling below the previous mark set last year. The three smallest audiences in the history of the game have taken place in the past five seasons.
For the day, the game ranked second out of the three bowl games on cable (not counting the Cure Bowl on CBS Sports Network, which is not Nielsen-rated). The Camellia Bowl had a slightly larger audience immediately afterward.
