After a heated debut last year, the second edition of the Miami Beach Bowl cooled off in more ways than one.
Monday’s Western Kentucky/South Florida Miami Beach Bowl scored 1.2 million viewers on ESPN, down 13% from last year’s inaugural matchup between BYU and Memphis, which ended in a brawl (1.3M). Ratings were not immediately available.
The Hilltoppers’ win marked the third of four bowl games on ESPN thus far to have a decline in viewership, the Camellia Bowl being the lone exception.
Though no surprise given the early Monday afternoon timeslot, the Miami Beach Bowl ranks as the least-watched game of the young bowl season (not including Saturday’s two games on ABC, which will almost certainly finish with larger audiences when the final numbers are released).
