Continuing the general trend for bowl games this season, the Armed Forces Bowl attracted fewer viewers this season.
Tuesday’s California/Air Force Armed Forces Bowl drew 1.9 million viewers on ESPN, down 10% from Houston/Pittsburgh last year (2.1M) but up 14% from Navy/Middle Tennessee State in 2013 (1.7M). Ratings were not immediately available.
The Golden Bears’ win earned the second-smallest audience for the game in the past ten seasons, ahead of only 2013. It was just the fourth Armed Forces Bowl over that span to take place on a regular workday, with those four ranking as the least-watched.
Tuesday’s game was the 17th of the 23 bowl games on ESPN thus far (through Wednesday) to have a year-over-year decline in viewership.
