Though not quite as big a draw as the Vikings/Saints overtime thriller, Sunday’s Jets/Colts AFC title game put up huge numbers on CBS.
The Colts’ win over the Jets drew a stellar 28.4/50 overnight rating on Sunday afternoon, up 18% from Eagles/Cardinals on FOX last year (24.0/44), up 4% from Chargers/Patriots on CBS in ’08 (27.4/48), and up 8% from Saints/Bears on FOX in ’07 (26.2/42).
The 28.4 overnight is the highest for the AFC Championship Game since Bills/Chiefs in ’94 (29.5/57), and the highest for the early Conference Championship Game since Falcons/Eagles in ’05 (28.6/48).
Additionally, the 28.4 is the highest overnight for any NFL telecast on CBS — excluding Super Bowls — since the network resumed airing NFL telecasts in ’98.
Ratings peaked at a 32.0/53 from 5:30-6 PM.
Local numbers for the game were not immediately available.
