Fox Sports has picked its replacement for Greg Norman, and it is not much of a surprise.
ESPN golf commentator Paul Azinger has been named the lead analyst for Fox Sports’ USGA coverage, working alongside the returning Joe Buck and Brad Faxon. Prior to the official announcement Wednesday morning, the news was reported by Golf Digest and Golf.com.
Azinger was widely considered a potential successor for Norman, who was ousted last week after just one year on the job.
While Norman was a relative newcomer to TV broadcasting, Azinger spent a decade with ESPN and ABC. During that stretch, ESPN/ABC’s golf coverage dwindled from regular weekly coverage to just the majors, and starting this season will consist of the first two rounds of The Masters — no doubt a factor in his departure.
