On a crowded sports weekend, the PGA Tour did not make much of a dent in the ratings.
Final round coverage of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am drew a 1.6 final rating on CBS last Sunday, down 36% from a 2.5 in 2008, and down 47% from a 3.0 in 2007.
Last year’s final round was canceled due to weather. CBS instead aired a replay of the 2008 final round, which drew a 1.0 rating.
Excluding rained out coverage, this marks the lowest rating for Sunday coverage of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am since at least ’99.
To put the numbers in perspective, Sunday coverage of the event drew at least a 3.0 rating each year from 2000-05 — including a 5.1 rating in ’01.
Third round coverage on Saturday drew a 1.2 rating, down 8% from a 1.3 last year, and down 29% from a 1.7 in ’08.
