In a last-minute change, Beth Mowins will call the Women’s Final Four. In other news, ESPN has reached a contract extension with Sean McDonough and Turner Sports has tapped NE-YO to perform One Shining Moment on TNT and TruTV.
Mowins Replacing O’Brien on Women’s Final Four
- ESPN play-by-play voice Beth Mowins has been named a last-minute replacement for Dave O’Brien on the Women’s Final Four and National Championship Game, it was announced Friday. The move was made to avoid a potential scheduling conflict involving O’Brien’s new role as voice of the Red Sox on NESN. Boston’s season opener is scheduled for Monday but is likely to be postponed to Tuesday due to weather — the same day as the title game. Rather than have O’Brien work the semifinals and skip the final, Mowins will call all three games. (ESPN Front Row)
McDonough, ESPN, Extend Deal
- ESPN announced Friday that it has reached a contract extension with play-by-play voice Sean McDonough, who will continue in his current roles on college football, college basketball and Major League Baseball. McDonough has been with ESPN since 2000 after a previous stint with the network from 1989-95. (ESPN Front Row)
NE-YO Performing One Shining Moment, But Not on TBS
- The recording artist NE-YO will perform a rendition of One Shining Moment to air on TNT and TruTV following Monday’s NCAA Tournament national championship game, Turner Sports announced Friday. The NE-YO version will be accompanied by team-specific clips from throughout the tournament. The traditional game broadcast on TBS will continue to use the Luther Vandross version.
