ESPN has hired one of the bigger names in women’s soccer. In other news, ESPN’s Brad Nessler is looking for a new gig and NBC has extended the voice of Triple Crown horse racing.
Wambach Hired
- ESPN has hired former United States women’s soccer player Abby Wambach both as an analyst and a contributor to the network’s news and magazine efforts, including Outside the Lines, E:60 and ESPN Films. Among her earliest assignments will be the UEFA Euro 2016 and Olympic Games this summer. (ESPN Media Zone)
Nessler Leaving?
- ESPN play-by-play voice Brad Nessler is “definitely looking” for other opportunities according to Sports Illustrated, which said the veteran broadcaster has not received the assignments he desired. Fox Sports’ Clay Travis said on Twitter last month that Nessler would join CBS, but that is not a “done deal” per SI. (SI.com, Twitter)
Collmus Extended
- NBC Sports has signed Triple Crown race caller Larry Collmus to a five-year contract extension, the Associated Press reported Monday. Collmus joined NBC in 2011, replacing Tom Durkin as the voice of the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes. (AP via Sports Business Daily)
