Copa America continues to deliver several of the largest audiences yet for men’s soccer on Fox Sports 1.
Monday’s United States/Costa Rica Copa America group play match earned a 0.8 final rating and 1.5 million viewers on FS1, including pre-match coverage. For the match portion only, it earned 1.6 million — the largest men’s soccer audience ever on the network (dates back to 2013).
The previous high was just shy of 1.6 million for last fall’s USA/Mexico CONCACAF Cup.
Both USMNT Copa America matches have topped 1.5 million viewers on FS1. By comparison, the network averaged 1.0 million for the team’s group play matches in last year’s Gold Cup and 445,000 for this year’s friendlies.
Spanish-language coverage on UniMas scored 2.7 million viewers. It was not immediately clear whether that included the simulcast audience on Univision Deportes Network (809K).
In other Copa America action, Sunday’s Argentina/Chile match had 862,000 on FS1 — the network’s largest audience for a men’s match not involving the United States. Spanish-language coverage had 2.8 million on UniMas, which may or may not have included the 1.1 million for UDN’s simulcast.
