An athlete who transcended sports throughout his life, Muhammad Ali continues to do so after his passing.
ESPN and all of the major news networks will cover Ali’s funeral Friday afternoon. On ESPN, which will begin nearly ten hours of coverage during the 7 AM ET SportsCenter, Hannah Storm will anchor alongside Jeremy Schaap from Louisville.
Bob Ley, who co-anchored SportsCenter on the night of Ali’s death, is in France covering the Euro 2016 soccer tournament. ESPN had originally planned to air the opening Euro 2016 match on Friday, but that will instead take place on ESPN2.
In addition to Storm and Schaap, ESPN will also have several reporters covering the event from various sites along the procession — including Marty Smith, Josina Anderson and Michael Eaves.
Shifting to cable news, MSNBC, CNN and Fox News Channel will each cover the service live. Coverage on MSNBC and FNC will be led by their respective breaking news anchors, Brian Williams and Shepard Smith.
On broadcast, CBS, NBC and ABC will each provide special reports. Lead CBS News anchor Scott Pelley is in Louisville and will anchor the CBS Evening News there Friday evening. NBC and ABC are keeping their primary anchors in New York.
In addition to those outlets, coverage will also air on TV One and Comcast SportsNet Chicago.
