Nearing the end of the Olympics’ first week, ratings continue to trail both 2012 and 2008.
Primetime coverage of the Rio Summer Olympics earned a 17.4 overnight rating on NBC Wednesday night, down 13% from London in 2012 (20.1) and down 11% from Beijing in 2008 (19.6). Compared to the same night of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, overnights increased 31% from a 13.3.
All six nights of the Olympics have posted declines in the metered markets compared to 2012 and 2008, with four of those six down double-digits from both years.
Figures do not include concurrent primetime coverage on NBCSN or Bravo. The former earned a 1.4 overnight; NBC did not provide numbers for the latter.
Salt Lake City led all markets with a 24.4 rating, followed by Denver (22.3), Indianapolis (20.0), St. Louis (19.4) and Columbus, OH (19.2). Local numbers for the comparable night in 2012 were not available.
