Ratings for the Olympics continue to decline, even outside of primetime.
Daytime coverage of the Rio Summer Olympics earned a 6.4 final rating and 10.2 million viewers on NBC Saturday afternoon, down 22% in ratings and 19% in viewership from London in 2012 (8.2, 12.6M) and down 15% and 9%, respectively, from Beijing in 2008 (7.5, 11.2M).
Morning coverage scored 7.4 million earlier in the day, down 32% from 2012 (11.0M) and down 14% from 2008 (8.7M).
On Sunday, afternoon coverage scored a 5.7 and 9.2 million — down 25% in in ratings and 22% in viewership from London (7.6, 11.8M) and down 14% and 7%, respectively, from Beijing (6.6, 9.9M). Coverage included portions of the Olympic golf final round. The morning window earned 5.8 million, down 4% from 2012 (8.6M) but up 2% from 2008 (from 5.754M to 5.847M).
Over on NBCSN, Saturday coverage pulled a 0.7 and 1.2 million viewers in the morning and a 0.5 and 855,000 during the afternoon, both down from a 0.8 and 1.2 million in 2012. The network did score stronger numbers on Sunday, with 1.9 million for an afternoon window that included the United States/France men’s basketball game — up 62% from 2012 (1.2M).
Outside of NBCSN, only one Olympics telecast topped the million viewer mark on cable over the weekend — Golf Channel’s afternoon window on Sunday (1.6M).
