The first NFL singleheader of the season hit multi-year lows in ratings and viewership.
The Week 1 NFL singleheader window earned a 9.3 final rating and 16.0 million viewers on CBS Sunday afternoon, down 20% in ratings and viewership from coverage on FOX last year (11.6, 20.1M) and down 6% and 3%, respectively, from coverage on CBS in 2014 (9.9, 16.5M).
Keep in mind last year’s 11.6 rating was the highest for the Week 1 singleheader on any network since 1994, and the 9.9 in 2014 was the highest for the Week 1 edition on CBS since 1999.
The telecast was the lowest rated Week 1 singleheader since 2012 (9.0) and the least-watched since 2013 (15.5M). That is an improvement from the overnight ratings, which were the lowest since 2009.
