Months after announcing his retirement from broadcasting, former ESPN/ABC and NBC NBA analyst Bill Walton is headed back to the booth.
The Sacramento Kings have hired Walton as an analyst for five to ten games next season, reports the Sacramento Bee, marking the first time since 2007 that he has called an NBA game.
In his last two seasons with ESPN/ABC, Walton served as a studio analyst.
As part of the limited schedule, Walton will be on in the booth for LeBron James‘ visit to Sacramento as well as some Kings games in Los Angeles.
Walton is the latest familiar name added to the Kings’ broadcast team. Earlier this month, the team hired former ESPN/ABC and NBC sideline reporter Jim Gray for a 20-game slate.
After being named one of the lead NBA studio analysts for ESPN/ABC in 2007, Walton suffered a series of back injuries that took him off the air for the better part of the next two years.
Previously, Walton was part of the broadcast team for several NBA Finals on NBC and ABC, serving as a game analyst in 1995, 1996, 1997, 2002 and 2003.
