A move from cable to broadcast resulted in a multi-year high for NASCAR’s Xfinity Series at Chicagoland. In other news, the NHRA hit a season-low last weekend, and the Formula 1 Singapore GP sank double-digits.
Move to Broadcast Boosts NASCAR Xfinity at Chicagoland
- NASCAR Xfinity Series racing from Chicagoland scored a 1.1 final rating and 1.7 million viewers on NBC Saturday afternoon, up 57% in ratings and 50% in viewership from last year on NBCSN (0.7, 1.1M) and up 38% and 35%, respectively, from 2014 on ESPN2 (0.8, 1.2M). It was the most-watched edition of the race since 2010 (1.8M) and the most-watched Xfinity Series race at Chicagoland since a now-discontinued summer race in 2011 (2.0M).
NHRA Hits Season-Low at Charlotte
- Live NHRA racing from Charlotte earned a 0.2 final rating and 272,000 viewers on Fox Sports 1 Sunday afternoon, down a tick in ratings and 37% in viewership from taped coverage on ESPN2 last year (0.3, 434K). Not including qualifying telecasts, it was easily the least-watched NHRA window of the season. Keep in mind it was the first NHRA telecast of the year to face the NFL.
F1 Singapore GP Down Double-Digits
- Formula 1 racing from Singapore earned 419,000 viewers on NBCSN last Sunday, down 18% from last year (510K) but up 3% from 2014 (406K). Of the season’s 13 F1 races that can be compared to last year, eight have posted declines. The race pulled a 0.3 final rating, even with the past two years.
