The Titans and Jaguars delivered the smallest primetime NFL audience since another matchup between the same teams.
The Week 9 Titans/Jaguars Thursday Night Football game had 5.1 million viewers on NFL Network, the smallest audience for a primetime NFL game since the same matchup on TNF in Week 16 of the 2014 season (4.9M). Ratings were not immediately available.
Dating back to 2014, three of the four least-watched primetime NFL games have been Titans/Jaguars matchups on Thursday Night Football. Last year’s game, which aired in Week 11, ranks fourth with a comparably healthy 6.6 million.
Compared to previous Week 9 editions of TNF, viewership sank 71% from Dolphins/Patriots last year (17.5M) and down 75% from Chargers/Broncos in 2014 (20.2M). Both of those games were simulcast on CBS and NFL Network.
Despite the primetime low, the Titans’ win was not the least-watched game on NFL Network this season, or even in the past week. Last Sunday’s early morning Giants/Rams game from London had 3.7 million.
In adults 18-49, TNF had a 1.8 rating — also the lowest for the NFL in primetime since Titans/Jaguars in ’14 (1.6).
