There was good news and bad in Premier League ratings last weekend.
Last Saturday’s Liverpool/West Brom English Premier League match scored a 0.6 final rating and 851,000 viewers on NBC, up a tick in ratings and 16% in viewership from Watford/Arsenal last year (0.5, 735K) and up 50% and 36%, respectively, from Swansea/Leicester City in 2014 (0.4, 627K).
The match earned the second-best rating and viewership of the season, trailing only Manchester United/Hull City on NBC in week three (0.7, 1.2M).
On cable, the week’s top draw was Chelsea/Manchester United on NBCSN Sunday morning — up 100% in ratings and 123% in viewership from Newcastle/Norwich last year (0.2, 270K) but down 47% and 54%, respectively, from Manchester United/Chelsea on NBC two years ago (0.7, 1.3M).
Those were the bright spots of a mixed weekend for the Premier League. On the downside, Manchester United/Southampton had 320,000 earlier Sunday morning — down 38% in viewership from Tottenham/Newcastle in 2014 (519K). There was no comparable window last year.
Returning to Saturday, Bournemouth/Tottenham scored a 0.2 and 263,000 in the early morning window — down a tick in ratings and 42% in viewership from Tottenham/Liverpool last year (0.3, 453K) and flat and down 16%, respectively, from West Ham/Manchester City in 2014 (0.2, 312K). Later in the day, Arsenal/Middlesbrough on NBCSN (410K, -29%) and Swansea/Watford on CNBC (82K, -61%) posted significant declines.
