Viewers are watching the United States men’s soccer team in big numbers.
Including Wednesday’s USA/Algeria game, the United States’ three group play World Cup matches averaged 11.1 million viewers on ESPN/ABC and Univision.
USA/Algeria drew 8.6 million viewers on ESPN and Univision, up from USA/Slovenia last Friday (7.5 mil on ESPN/Univision) but down from USA/England on June 12 (17.1 mil on ABC/Univision).
During the 2006 World Cup, the United States’ group play matches averaged 6.6 million viewers. Important to note: the 2006 numbers include pre-match coverage, while the 2010 numbers are for the match only.
The strong numbers come despite early start times. Both USA/Algeria and USA/Slovenia began at 10 AM ET (7 AM PT).
