The latest meeting between the United States and Mexico was no match for their previous match. In other news, college hoops’ Armed Forces Classic hit a viewership high, and NBCSN posted a decline for last week’s NHL action.
Mexico/USA Down From Sides’ Previous Meeting
- Friday’s Mexico/United States World Cup qualifying match had 4.6 million viewers on Univision and Univision Deportes Network, down 10% from the sides’ most recent meeting in last year’s CONCACAF Cup (5.1M) but the largest audience for a World Cup qualifier since USA/Mexico in March 2013. On Fox Sports 1, coverage had a 0.7 final rating and 1.3 million viewers — down a tick and 19%, respectively, from last year’s CONCACAF Cup match (0.8, 1.6M). The FS1 figures include pre-match coverage, while the Univision numbers do not. (Univision, Programming Insider 11/14)
College Hoops’ Armed Forces Classic Hits High
- Indiana/Kansas scored a 0.9 final rating and 1.5 million viewers in college basketball’s Armed Forces Classic Friday night, the largest audience in the short history of the event (five games). Last year’s Pittsburgh/Gonzaga game was canceled due to a slippery court. Arizona/Michigan State had 1.3 million earlier in the night, the third-largest audience for the event. Dip For NHL on NBCSN
- Blackhawks/Blues earned a 0.3 final rating and 516,000 viewers on last week’s edition of NBCSN’s Wednesday Night Rivalry, down 10% in viewership from the same matchup last year, ratings for which were unavailable (576K) but flat and up 6%, respectively, from Red Wings/Rangers in 2014 (489K).
