ABC put up weak numbers for its college football tripleheader on Saturday.
Oklahoma/West Virginia had a 2.5 overnight rating on ABC’s Saturday Night Football over the weekend, down 7% from TCU/Oklahoma last year (2.7), down 59% from Florida State/Miami in 2014 (6.1), and the second-lowest of the season for ABC’s Saturday night window. Stanford/USC had a 2.1 in week three.
Despite the drop, the Sooners’ win was easily ABC’s strongest draw of the day. Earlier, regional action had a 1.8 overnight in the mid-afternoon window — down 74% from Ohio State/Michigan State last year (7.0) and down 22% from Nebraska/Wisconsin in 2014 (2.3).
Wisconsin/Purdue started off the day with a mere 1.3 overnight, down 68% from Michigan/Penn State last year (4.1), down 70% from Ohio State/Minnesota in ’14 (4.3), and ABC’s lowest overnight of the season. It was also the lowest college football overnight of the weekend on a broadcast network.
Both afternoon windows were trounced head-to-head by competing coverage on ESPN — Ohio State/Michigan State in the Noon ET window (4.2) and Indiana/Michigan in the mid-afternoon (3.2).
