For the second straight week, a pair of Pac-12 games on FOX had the same rating but vastly different results.
FOX scored a 1.7 final rating and 3.1 million viewers for last Saturday’s Utah/Colorado college football game, down 60% in ratings and 58% in viewership from Notre Dame/Stanford last year, the network’s top college football broadcast outside of bowls or conference championships (4.3, 7.3M). There was no comparable primetime window on the comparable weekend in 2014.
The previous day, Washington/Washington State scored the same 1.7 with 2.9 million viewers — up 70% in ratings and 83% in viewership from the same matchup last year (1.0, 1.5M) and up 31% and 34%, respectively, from Arizona/Arizona State on the day after Thanksgiving in 2014 (1.3, 2.1M).
The games rank as the third-and fourth-most watched on FOX this season (16 telecasts).
Shifting to Fox Sports 1, TCU/Texas had 986,000 viewers last Friday afternoon — up 36% from Oregon State/Oregon last year (726K). There was no comparable window in 2014.
In other action, West Virginia/Iowa State had a 0.3 (+200%) and 594,000 (+125%) Saturday afternoon. Kansas/Kansas State had a 0.2 (-33%) and 264,000 (-44%) earlier in the day. Last year featured the same two games, but in reverse order. On a matchup-to-matchup basis, rather than window-to-window, West Virginia/Iowa State was up a more modest 26% in viewership and Kansas/Kansas State was flat.
