The Sun Bowl was the least-watched in several years. In other news, the Liberty Bowl was no match for last year’s big numbers, and the Music City Bowl delivered the top audience of the bowl season entering the New Year’s Six.
Sun Bowl is Least Watched in At Least Nine Years
- The Stanford/North Carolina Sun Bowl scored 2.9 million viewers on CBS Friday afternoon, down 38% from Washington State/Miami last year (4.7M) and down 18% from Arizona State/Duke in 2014 (3.6M), both of which took place on Saturdays. The Cardinal’s win was the least-watched edition of the game since at least 2007. Ratings were not immediately available.
Liberty Bowl Down From Last Year’s High
- ESPN drew 3.1 million viewers for Friday’s Georgia/TCU Liberty Bowl, down 56% from Arkansas/Kansas State last year (7.0M), down 5% from Texas A&M/West Virginia in 2014 (3.3M), and the least-watched edition of the game in three years. Last year’s game took place on a Saturday afternoon.
Music City Bowl High, But Lower
- Tennessee/Nebraska had 5.0 million viewers in Friday’s Music City Bowl on ESPN, down 7% from Louisville/Texas A&M last year (5.4M), down 5% from Notre Dame/LSU in 2014 (5.3M), and a three-year low. Despite the dip, it was the most-watched bowl outside of the New Year’s Six through Friday’s play.
