ESPN Extends Mark Jones
- ESPN has reached a contract extension with play-by-play voice Mark Jones, who will continue in his current roles on ESPN’s NBA, college basketball and college football coverage. Jones, it may surprise some to learn, has been with ESPN since 1990 and is one of only 15 active on-air personalities who have been there at least 27 consecutive years. (ESPN Media Zone 2.15)
In Midst of Cancer Battle, Stars’ Strader Returning For Homestand
- Dallas Stars play-by-play voice Dave Strader is returning to the booth for a five-game homestand during a break in his cancer treatment. Strader, who has been the voice of the Stars since 2015 and was previously second on NBC’s NHL depth chart, will work games from this Saturday through March 2 before returning to New York for more treatment. Red Sox’ Remy Facing Cancer Relapse
- Boston Red Sox TV analyst Jerry Remy is being treated for a relapse of lung cancer but said Monday that the disease had not spread and is “under control.” Remy first battled the disease in 2008 and had a previous relapse in 2013. He underwent a procedure last week to remove the cancer and will have a follow-up procedure in two weeks, after which he would be given clearance to fly to Florida for spring training coverage.
