The NHL Stadium Series bounced back from a pair of rough performances last year, but was still not much of a draw for NBC.
Saturday’s Flyers/Penguins NHL Stadium Series game scored a 1.2 overnight rating on NBC, up 20% from the network’s previous primetime regular season games — Red Wings/Avalanche in last year’s Stadium Series and a Rangers/Flyers indoor game in 2015 (1.0).
Not including the All-Star Game, the 1.2 is the second-highest NHL overnight on NBC this season. The Winter Classic holds the top spot (1.9).
Despite the increase, the 1.2 is the third-lowest for a primetime NHL game on NBC. In addition, it tied the third-lowest overnight for an outdoor game on the network — matching Blackhawks/Wild last year and ahead of only Red Wings/Avalanche last year and Red Wings/Maple Leafs in this year’s Centennial Classic.
The Penguins’ win delivered a 16.3 rating in Pittsburgh and a 5.1 in Philadelphia.
