Recent sports TV ratings news, including a record month for the Rangers and a substantial increase for Cardinals preseason games.
- The Rangers continue to be a ratings success in the Dallas-Ft. Worth market. Rangers telecasts averaged a 5.5 rating on Fox Sports Southwest in August, the team’s highest rating ever for a single month. The previous record was set in July (4.7). The Rangers’ full-season average of 3.6 is “on pace to break the previous” record set in 1998 (3.5). (Dallas Morning News)
- Cardinals preseason games averaged a 12.7 rating in the Phoenix market, up 41% from last year (9.0). The team’s preseason finale against Washington drew “almost one in four households” on Thursday night. (KTAR.com)
- Last Sunday’s Wozniacki/Petrova Pilot Pen Tennis final drew a 0.7 final rating and 948,000 viewers on CBS, up a tick in ratings from last year’s rainout coverage (0.6). Compared to the last time the final was played as scheduled, the 0.7 rating marks a whopping 133% increase from Wozniacki/Chakvetadze in ’08 (0.3). (Sports Business Daily)
