An all-SEC matchup in the Elite Eight delivered solid numbers for CBS.
South Carolina-Florida earned a 6.4 overnight rating in Sunday’s NCAA Tournament Elite Eight on CBS, up 31% from Syracuse-Virginia last year, which aired on TBS in a later timeslot (4.9), but down 16% from a considerably higher-profile Michigan State-Louisville matchup on CBS in 2015 (7.6).
The 6.4 overnight is the fifth-highest for the early Sunday Elite Eight window in the past decade, right in the middle of the pack.
The Gamecocks’ win ranked second out of the four Elite Eight games and, it almost goes without saying, second for the weekend among all sporting events.
Last year’s South Carolina-Florida college football game, which also aired on CBS, had a 1.6 overnight. Of course the stakes were a lot lower for that game.
