Sunday’s NFL national window on CBS earned the second-largest overnight rating of the young season — no small feat considering the massive audiences the NFL has attracted this year.
The Week 2 NFL national window (featuring Patriots/Jets) drew a 16.7 overnight rating on CBS Sunday afternoon, up 8% from last year (PIT/CHI*: 15.4) and up 7% from 2008 (NE/NYJ*: 15.6).
The 16.7 is the largest overnight for any regular season NFL telecast on CBS since 2007, and the highest for the network’s first national window of the season since it resumed airing coverage in 1998.
Additionally, the 16.7 is the second-highest NFL overnight of the season, behind only the Week 1 national window on FOX (17.1).
Earlier Sunday, regional NFL action featuring Vikings/Dolphins drew an 11.2 overnight — down 2% from last year (NE/NYJ*: 11.4) and up 17% from 2008 (IND/MIN*: 9.6).
Through three telecasts, CBS is averaging a 13.0 overnight rating for NFL coverage, up 12% from last year (11.6).
