A battle of top five television markets — featuring arguably the biggest TV draw in American sports — helped FOX to strong numbers on Sunday afternoon.
The Week 2 NFL singleheader drew a 12.3 overnight rating on FOX, up 18% from last year (NO/PHI*: 10.4), and up 10% from 2008 (NYG/STL*: 11.2).
Sunday’s telecast featured the #3 market Bears against the #5 market Cowboys as the primary game.
The last time the Cowboys played in the primary game of the singleheader window (Week 11 of last year), the telecast drew a similarly large 12.2 overnight.
The telecast was the third-highest rated of the four NFL telecast windows on Sunday, behind the national window on CBS (16.7) and Sunday Night Football on NBC (15.2), but ahead of the early regional window on CBS (11.2).
