The last day of the 2010 MLB regular season produced solid numbers for baseball on FOX.
Regional MLB action featuring Yankees/Red Sox drew a 2.6 overnight rating on FOX Saturday, up 30% from regional action one week earlier (BOS/NYY*: 2.0) and up 73% from two weeks ago (ATL/NYM*: 1.5).
Overnight ratings for last year’s comparable telecast were unavailable.
The 2.6 overnight is the highest of the season for an MLB telecast on FOX which featured Yankees/Red Sox as the primary game (four telecasts). That said, it should be pointed out that Saturday’s game aired in just 47% of TV markets, compared to 82%, 86% and 67% for the first three.
Saturday’s telecast outdrew the Tennessee/LSU college football airing on CBS at virtually the same time (2.4), but finished well behind regional action on ABC featuring Texas/Oklahoma (4.8).
Despite the solid numbers, FOX is likely to finish the season tying last year’s record low average of 1.8.
