The final two games of the Phillies/Reds Division Series were down from last year — though it should be pointed out that both of last year’s comparable games involved the Yankees.
The Phillies’ series-clinching Game 3 win over the Reds drew a 2.8 U.S. rating and 4.653 million viewers on TBS Sunday night, down 32% in ratings and viewership from last year (NYY/MIN G3: 4.1, 6.791 mil) and down 28% and 25%, respectively, from 2008 (LAA/BOS G3: 3.9, 6.199 mil).
Likely owing in part to NFL competition, Sunday’s Game 3 drew a smaller audience than Game 2 of the series two nights earlier.
Friday’s Game 2 drew a 3.1 U.S. rating and 5.024 million viewers on TBS, down 24% in ratings and 23% in viewership from last year (MIN/NYY G2: 4.1, 6.484 mil) and up 19% and 29%, respectively, from 2008 (CHW/TB G2: 2.6, 3.895 mil).
Both Games 2 and 3 outdrew the first game of the series (2.7, 4.209 mil), which featured Phillies P Roy Halladay‘s no-hitter. That game had the earliest start of the series (5 PM ET).
All three games of the Phillies/Reds Division Series had declines in ratings and viewership compared to last year, and two of the three games were down from 2008.
