The dethroning of the #1 team in the country attracted a large audience to CBS last weekend.
CBS drew a 4.8 final rating and 7.662 million viewers for Alabama’s loss to South Carolina last Saturday afternoon, up 55% in ratings and 56% in viewership from last year (ALA/MISS: 3.1, 4.904 mil).
This marks the third time in four games that CBS has drawn at least seven million viewers for college football coverage, with the other two occurrences also involving Alabama.
Saturday’s telecast ranks as the fourth highest rated, fourth most-viewed of the college football season, behind Florida/Alabama on CBS last week (5.0, 8.595 mil), Alabama/Arkansas on CBS two weeks ago (5.2, 8.138 mil) and Boise State/Virginia Tech on ESPN Labor Day (6.3, 9.888 mil).
CBS is averaging a 4.2 rating for college football coverage this season, up 11% from last year (3.8) and the network’s highest average through this point of the season since ’99.
