The Florida State/Miami rivalry was not exactly a big draw last Saturday night.
Regional college football action featuring FSU/Miami in 79% of TV markets drew a 3.1 final rating and 5.053 million viewers on ABC last Saturday night — up 11% and 10%, respectively, from last year (MICH/IOWA: 2.8, 4.584 mil).
Though up from Michigan/Iowa, the 3.1 rating trails all other Saturday Night Football telecasts from last season.
But while the numbers are low compared to last year, Saturday’s telecast actually ranks in the middle of the pack compared to ABC’s other Saturday night telecasts this season.
ABC’s telecast drew fewer viewers than LSU/Florida on ESPN, which aired at the same time (3.1, 5.321 mil).
Earlier in the day, ABC drew a 3.5 final rating and 5.502 million viewers for regional action featuring Michigan State/Michigan — down 17% and 14%, respectively, from last year (WISC/OSU*: 4.2, 6.373 mil).
Despite the decline, the telecast drew the second-highest numbers of the season for an afternoon college football telecast on ABC.
Neither game of ABC’s doubleheader was able to top Saturday’s Alabama/South Carolina game on CBS. This is the third straight week that a game on CBS outdrew both games of an ABC college football doubleheader.
