Though still down from last year’s Yankees/Angels ALCS on the network, Wednesday’s Giants/Phillies Game 5 earned strong numbers for FOX.
FOX drew a 7.9 overnight rating for the Phillies’ Game 5 win over the Giants, down 11% from Game 5 of last year’s ALCS on FOX (NYY/LAA: 8.9), but up 25% from Game 5 of the 2008 NLCS on FOX (PHI/LAD: 6.3).
Game 5 of last year’s NLCS on TBS drew a 5.9 overnight rating.
The 7.9 for Thursday’s telecast is the highest for any National League Championship Series telecast since Cardinals/Mets Game 7 in 2006 (12.4).
Phillies/Giants drew a 31.4 rating in the Philadelphia market, up 5% from Wednesday’s Game 4 (29.8), but down 15% from last year’s Dodgers/Phillies Game 5 on TBS (37.0), in which the Phillies clinched a second-straight trip to the World Series.
In the Bay Area, the game drew a 28.5 rating — up 22% from Game 4 (23.3), and up 5% from Cardinals/Giants Game 5 in 2002 (27.1), when the Giants clinched a trip to the World Series. The 28.5 rating is the highest for a Major League Baseball game in the market since Game 7 of the 2002 Giants/Angels World Series.
