For the third time in as many weeks, over seven million viewers tuned in to see the #1 team in the country fall.
Missouri’s upset win over then-BCS #1 Oklahoma earned a 4.3 final rating and 7.064 million viewers on ABC Saturday night, up 27% in ratings and 26% in viewership from last year (TEX/MIZZ: 3.4, 5.588 mil), and up 39% and 42%, respectively, from 2008 (MIZZ/TEX: 3.1, 4.972 mil).
Oklahoma/Missouri ranks as ABC’s third-highest rated and second-most viewed college football telecast of the season.
As mentioned earlier, Oklahoma’s loss marked the third straight week that the #1 team in the country was upset, with each game drawing at least a 4.0 rating and over seven million viewers.
Then-#1 Ohio State’s loss to Wisconsin on October 16 drew a 4.3 rating and and 7.271 milllion viewers on ESPN, and then-#1 Alabama’s fall to South Carolina on October 9 drew a 4.8 and 7.662 million on CBS.
The telecast was outdrawn head-to-head by Game 6 of the Giants/Phillies NLCS on FOX (6.7, 11.639 mil).
