Despite competition from the World Series, the latest edition of ABC’s Saturday Night Football hit a season high in overnight ratings.
College football action featuring Oregon/USC in 79% of markets drew a 5.3 overnight rating on ABC Saturday night, up 15% from last year (USC/ORE*: 4.6), but down 26% from 2008 (PSU/OSU: 7.2).
The 5.3 overnight is the highest of the season for a college football telecast on ABC, and the third-highest of the season for college football on any network.
Only Alabama/Arkansas on CBS September 25 (5.4) and Boise State/Virginia Tech on ESPN Labor Day (6.8) drew higher overnights.
Earlier in the day, regional action featuring Michigan State/Iowa in 77% of markets drew a 3.3 overnight, down 6% from last year (MIA/WF*: 3.5), and down 37% from 2008 (OKST/TX*: 5.2).
