Monday Night Football trailed the World Series in the overnights, though not by as much as last year.
ESPN earned an 8.6 overnight for the Colts’ Monday night win over the Texans, up a tick from last year’s Week 8 game (ATL/NO: 8.5). The 8.6 is the second-lowest of the season for Monday Night Football, ahead of only Titans/Jaguars in Week 6 (7.2).
Like that Titans/Jaguars game, Monday’s telecast aired opposite the Major League Baseball postseason — specifically, the clinching Game 5 of the 2010 World Series.
Giants/Rangers Game 5 outdrew Texans/Colts by 23% (10.6 to 8.6), less than half of last year’s 51% gap between Yankees/Phillies Game 5 and Falcons/Saints (12.8 to 8.5).
The ESPN telecast drew a 15.7 rating in Houston and a 25.5 in Indianapolis. The game was simulcast on local broadcast affiliates in both markets, drawing a 6.4 on Houston CW affiliate KIAH, and an 18.1 on Indianapolis MyNetworkTV affiliate WNDY.
