Huge Declines For Confederations Cup Final on FS1
- Fox Sports 1 earned a 0.5 final rating and 800,000 viewers for last Sunday’s Germany-Chile FIFA Confederations Cup final, down 58% in ratings and 59% in viewership vs. Brazil-Spain in a later window four years ago (1.2, 2.0M) and down 77% and 80% respectively vs. Brazil-United States in 2009 (2.2, 3.9M). Those matches aired on ESPN. Overall, the Fox Sports networks averaged 366,000 viewers for coverage of the Confederations Cup. By comparison, Telemundo and NBC Universo averaged 2.0 million for the final and 1.1 million for the full tournament.
Yankees-Astros Boosts MLB on FOX
- Regional Major League Baseball action featuring Yankees-Astros in 73% of markets earned a 1.6 final rating and 2.5 million viewers on FOX last Saturday, up 14% in ratings and 18% in viewership vs. last year (1.4, 2.1M) and flat and down 9% respectively vs. 2015 (1.6, 2.7M). Earlier in the day, FS1 earned 210,000 for Marlins-Brewers; there was no comparable window last year.
Slight Bump For Nats-Cards on SNB
- Nationals-Cardinals earned a 0.9 final rating and 1.4 million viewers on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball last weekend, flat in ratings and 1% in viewership vs. Marlins-Braves last year (0.9, 1.4M) and up a tick and 4% respectively from Giants-Nationals in 2015 (0.8, 1.3M). In other action, ESPN scored 544,000 for Pirates-Phillies (-27%) and 643,000 for Red Sox-Rangers (+5%) on Tuesday, 683,000 for Red Sox-Rangers on Monday, and 562,000 for Twins-Red Sox last Thursday.
