The LPGA’s second major of the season hit a multi-year high.
Final round coverage of the Women’s PGA Championship, the second major of the LPGA Tour season, earned a 0.6 final rating and 840,000 viewers on NBC Sunday afternoon — flat in ratings and up 1% in viewership from last year, when NBC aired just 90 minutes of coverage (0.6, 829K), and up a tick and 21% respectively vs. 2015 (0.5, 695K).
It was the largest audience for the tournament (previously known as the LPGA Championship) in twelve years, since CBS pulled 1.5 million for final round coverage in 2005. Keep in mind NBC did not begin televising the event until 2015, ending its ten-year absence from broadcast television.
Third round action the previous day had a 0.5 and 736,000, flat in ratings and up 14% in viewership from last year (0.5, 646K) and flat and up 11% respectively from 2015 (0.5, 663K). It was the tournament’s largest third round audience in at least five years.
The telecasts trailed competing coverage of the PGA Tour on CBS, but topped the U.S. Senior Open on FOX.
