After six seasons, the second president of the WNBA is making her exit.
WNBA President Donna Orender will step down effective December 31, the WNBA announced on Friday. Orender had been WNBA president since the 2005 season, replacing original president Val Ackerman.
NBA SVP of Team Marketing and Business Operations Chris Granger will serve as an interim replacement.
In Orender’s tenure, the WNBA has lost three teams — the Comets, Monarchs and Sting — who combined for seven WNBA Finals appearances. The Shock, who have made four Finals appearances, moved from Detroit to Tulsa.
On a more positive note, the league added two expansion teams, the Dream and the Sky.
Orender will remain with the WNBA as a consultant.
