The Presidents Cup ended on a historically low note last weekend.
Final day coverage of the Presidents Cup had a 1.5 rating and 2.3 million viewers on NBC last Sunday, down 21% in ratings and 15% in viewership from 2013 (1.9, 2.7M), the last time the U.S. hosted the event.
Compared to the 2015 edition, which took place in South Korea and aired on tape delay, ratings increased 88% and viewership 103% from a 0.8 and 1.2 million.
The 1.5 rating is the lowest for the final day of a U.S.-based Presidents Cup since at least 1996, and likely ever, falling below the previous mark set in ’13.
Coverage last Saturday had a 1.4 and 2.0 million, down 22% and 17% respectively from 2013 (1.8, 2.4M). Compared to ’15 in South Korea, ratings increased 75% and viewership 86% from a 0.8 and 1.1 million.
The earlier rounds fared better. Last Friday’s action had 900,000 viewers on Golf Channel, up 16% from 2013 (778K), and the opening day of coverage — featuring appearances by Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton — increased 8% from four years ago (from 740K to 805K).
