Even with Tiger Woods out of contention, ratings for the final round of the Farmers Insurance Open were the highest for any non-major golf telecast in over a year.
Final round coverage of the Farmers Insurance Open earned a 3.5 final rating and 5.307 million viewers on CBS Sunday afternoon, up 59% in ratings and 70% in viewership from last year (2.2, 3.118M), and up 75% and 79%, respectively, from 2009 (2.0, 2.967M).
This marks the highest rated, most-viewed round of the Farmers Insurance Open since final round coverage in 2008, the last year Woods won the event (4.2, 6.193M).
In addition, Sunday’s final round ranks as the highest rated golf telecast, excluding majors, since the final round of the Bridgestone Invitational in August ’09 (4.3, 6.254M).
Compared to other sports telecasts last weekend, the final round finished behind the Pro Bowl on FOX and Celtics/Lakers on ABC.
Saturday’s third round action drew a 2.0 rating and 3.037 million viewers, up 33% in ratings and 42% in viewership from last year (1.5, 2.140M), and up 67% and 79%, respectively, from 2009 (1.2, 1.7M).
