Recent news involving sports media personalities, including Bob Griese retiring from broadcasting, Bob Harwood getting let go from Versus, and President Obama appearing on Sunday’s Super Bowl pregame.
- Bob Griese: The ESPN college football analyst has retired from broadcasting after nearly three decades in the business. Griese joined ABC in April 1987, and more recently worked ESPN’s early afternoon college football games with Chris Speilman and play-by-play voice Dave Pasch. His time with ESPN/ABC was preceded by a comparably brief stint as an NFL analyst for NBC. “I?ve had a wonderful career and now it?s time to experience new things,” Griese said in a statement. (ESPN)
- Bob Harwood: The Versus NHL reporter has been fired from the network, apparently as part of changes instituted by corporate sibling NBC. “They’re adopting the NBC format and they want an ex-player between the benches,” Harwood told the Montreal Gazette. (Montreal Gazette via Puck the Media)
- President Obama: The U.S. president will be interviewed on Sunday’s Super Bowl XLV pregame show on FOX, marking the third straight year he has been interviewed during the Super Bowl pregame. The interview will take place at approximately 4:30 PM ET. (FOX press release)
