Though billed as the game of the week, Notre Dame-Miami ratings were not even the best of the weekend.
Notre Dame-Miami scored a 3.9 rating and 6.7 million viewers on ABC’s Saturday Night Football last weekend, up a tick in ratings and 4% in viewership from Michigan-Iowa last year (3.8, 6.4M) and up a tick and 14% respectively from Oklahoma-Baylor in 2015 (3.8, 5.9M).
The Hurricanes’ blowout win, which had 6.9 million with streaming included, ranked third for the weekend behind Georgia-Auburn on CBS earlier in the day (4.4, 7.4M) and the competing Alabama-Mississippi game on ESPN (3.9, 7.0M).
For the season, it ranks as the ninth-most watched college football game on any network. ABC has aired seven of the top eleven games. Overall, the ESPN family of networks has combined for nine of the top 12.
The last time Notre Dame played in a matchup of top ten teams, 2014 against Florida State, their narrow loss had a 7.9 and 13.3 million on ABC. That game faced far less onerous competition, with no other game in the timeslot exceeding a 1.6 and 2.7 million.
Earlier in the day, Iowa-Wisconsin had a 2.35 rating (-23%) and 3.8 million viewers (-23%). Regional action — Oklahoma State-Iowa State or N.C. State-Boston College — drew a 2.0 (-17%) and 3.0 million (-20%) in the Noon ET window.
