Hawks television analyst Dominique Wilkins was allegedly involved in a scuffle with former NBA referee Rashan Michel following Wednesday’s Magic/Hawks game.
Wilkins, who had just finished calling the Hawks’ victory over the Magic on SportSouth, was “mingling with fans” at Phillips Arena when the attack occurred, according to Atlanta ABC affiliate WSB. He was not injured.
The Atlanta-Journal Constitution identified Wilkins’ attacker as former NBA and current college basketball referee Rashan Michel. Michel, an NBA referee from 1997 through at least 2001, allegedly told police that he was “owed money for suits purchased several years ago” (ajc.com, 3/30/11).
Michel has also worked men’s and women’s college basketball games, including a Northeastern/George Mason women’s game as recently as March 2.
