No decline and no record-low is as big of a win as one can expect for the MLB All-Star Game.
Tuesday’s Major League Baseball All-Star Game earned a 6.5 overnight rating on FOX, even with last year and up a tick from the all-time low of 6.4 set in 2016.
This year marked just the sixth time since 2001 that All-Star Game overnights did not decline.
Even so, the 6.5 is tied as the second-lowest overnight on record for the Midsummer Classic. The nine lowest have come in the past nine years.
As recently as 2009, the All-Star Game still had a double-digit overnight (10.4). In each season since, the game has either posted a record-low or — at best — tied its second-lowest rating ever. In the past eight years, overnights have not once exceeded an 8.1.
Despite the historically low numbers, the MLB All-Star Game still outperformed the NFL Pro Bowl (5.9 on ESPN/ABC) and NBA All-Star Game (5.1 on TNT/TBS). No Pro Bowl has had as high an overnight as Tuesday’s 6.5 since 2014 and no NBA All-Star Game has reached that mark since 2003.
