After a rare drop for his 40th-place finish at the Northern Trust, Tiger Woods had his usual impact on PGA Tour ratings last weekend.
Monday’s final round of the PGA Tour at TPC Boston earned a 2.1 rating and 3.17 million viewers on NBC, up a tick in ratings and 8% in viewership from last year (2.0, 2.93M) and up 40% and 38% respectively from 2016 (1.5, 2.30M).
Bryson DeChambeau‘s win, in which Woods finished 24th, delivered the tournament’s highest rating and viewership since 2013 (2.2, 3.18M). Not coincidentally, 2013 marked Woods’ previous appearance in the event.
It was also the highest rated and most-watched PGA Tour playoff telecast since the 2015 Barclays (2.3, 3.41M).
Third round coverage last Sunday had a 1.7 and 2.63 million, flat in ratings and up 9% in viewership from last year (1.7, 2.41M) and up 31% and 32% respectively from 2016 (1.3, 1.98M).
Woods has now played 30 rounds on broadcast television this season, with 28 of those posting an increase in ratings and viewership.
Lead-in coverage on Golf Channel had a 0.9 (+44%) and 1.34 million (+44%) on Sunday, marking the tournament’s largest audience on cable since the second round in 2013 (1.61M). Monday’s lead-in had 1.0 million (+81%). Saturday’s second round coverage drew a 0.7 (+17%) and 1.0 million (+21%) and last Friday’s opening round scored 593,000 (+9%).
