The old NBA on NBC theme is back, this time on FOX. In other news, ESPN is parting ways with Intentional Talk, and the network will carry a documentary on Tiger Woods‘ 2018 season.
FOX to Use NBC’s NBA Theme on College Hoops
Fox Sports announced Friday that it will use “Roundball Rock” — NBC Sports’ NBA theme music during its 12-year run carrying the league — on Saturday’s FOX college basketball tripleheader. It was not immediately clear what the network’s plans for the John Tesh-created theme were beyond Saturday. Since NBC lost NBA rights 16 years ago, “Roundball Rock” has been used only sparingly. It was NBA TV’s theme music in the early 2000s and NBC used it on United States men’s basketball games in the 2008 Olympics. [Fox Sports PR 12.7]
ESPN Dumping Intentional Talk
ESPN has ceased simulcasting the MLB Network show Intentional Talk, the New York Post reported Thursday. The network reached an agreement with MLB Network last year to carry the daily show on ESPN2 after company-wide layoffs resulted in the scaling back of Baseball Tonight. Per the Post, there is no immediate word on what, if any, daily baseball show will fill the void. [NYP 12.6]
ESPN to Air Doc on Tiger’s Season
ESPN announced this week that it will air a documentary chronicling Tiger Woods‘ 2018 PGA Tour season, which culminated in his first victory since 2013. Titled “Tiger Woods: Return of the Roar,” the PGA-directed film will air in primetime on Woods’ December 30 birthday. [ESPN PR 12.5]
